Review: Mutual Appreciation

mutual appreciation
Elvis, Madonna, Britney, Justin Timberlake, Mandy Moore, and Jessica Simpson have all done it. Even Dwight Yoakam & Ludacris have done it. Jennifer Hudson did it and won herself a pretty gold statue.

Of course, I’m talking about the often risky role-reversal that is the musician-turned-actor. After recently watching Mutual Appreciation, I am happy to report that Bishop Allen bandmember Justin Rice is one of those unique individuals who is both an excellent musician and actor. I would strongly recommend Mutual Appreciation to anyone interested in seeing a fresh and entertaining portrait of post-graduate hipster milieu. Along with Rice’s performance, I must also give props to writer/director Bujalski for his awesome ability to make conversations, situations, and relationships that seem both authentically clumsy and meaningful.

Check out the trailer and enjoy the following camera-themed track from Bishop Allen.
