FUN FACTS:
Björk Guðmundsdóttir usually goes by her first name only, but this is not a stage name or affectation. Icelanders are commonly only referred to by their first name, as the last name simply indicates the name of the father (or occasionally the mother). Björk means “a birch tree” in Icelandic and although many English-speakers pronounce her name “Byork,” a more accurate approximation would be “Byirk” (which she has pointed out rhymes with “jerk.”)
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Seeing Björk in concert is a major production that can involve major drama. Since the singer tours infrequently and only stops in a handful of big venues (the American leg of the Volta tour included only five cities), the opportunities to see one of the most dynamic voices of our time onstage are rare. Constantly returning to her back catalogue and re-arranging compositions, her penchant for revision is an adventure.
