Bonnaroo Webcast

For those of you not making it to Manchester, Tennessee for this weekend’s Bonnaroo festival may want to note that much of the festival will be webcast via AT&T’s Blue Room June 15-17. The webcasts will start around noon each day and run to about midnight featuring such acts as Wilco, Flaming Lips, Feist, Lily Allen, Ben Harper, Cold War Kids and String Cheese Incident. If Bonnaroo isn’t your thing, you can still check out Blue Room’s archived performances from this year’s Coachella festival.

Technical Difficulties

After several years of good use and much travel, this morning my iBook unfortunately died returning to that big Apple store in the sky. The good news is that I’m going to have some friends helping me keep Hypeful updated over the next few days while I attempt to fix my computer situation.

As I’m sure some of you know, losing a computer is a terrible feeling and I feel even worse about not being able to personally update Hypeful. I appreciate your patience and am anticipating getting everything back to normal ASAP.

In the meantime, I would be very appreciative if anyone knows how I could maybe get a discount on a new MacBook…

Band to Watch: The Wildbirds

After a couple of years of playing Midwestern dives, The Wildbirds are a Wisconsin-based quartet who are ready to unleash their unadulterated classic rock sound beyond the dairy state. Void of synthesizers or technical fairy dust, their sound is a raucous spin on the musical template forged by classic rockers. In fact, most of The Wildbirds’ material was written in the woods of northern Wisconsin, where the band could play as loud as they wanted without worry of being harassed by their hometown police.

The Wildbirds have just finished recording their full-length debut album with producer Greg Fidelman (U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond), which is scheduled for release on August 14th. Songs like “Way Down Low” and “421 (Everybody Loves You)” pack the immediate punch of a slug of bourbon on a Saturday night - check them out and listen to a couple of more tracks on The Wildbirds’ MySpace page.

Mute Math Covers “Transformers Theme”

After Transformers won an MTV Movie Award despite not being released until July 4, it was clear that over the next few few weeks we don’t face attack from Decepticons - we face an attack from the Paramount publicity team. Synth rockers Mute Math were put in charge of covering the “Transformers Theme” for the film, which you can hear now on their MySpace page. Hypeful hopes the film is awesome, however there doesn’t seem to be more than meets the ear to the the soundtrack.

Flaming Lips Concert Film Premiere @ Dead Center Film Festival (OKC, OK) 6/9/07

Wayne

On a grassy lawn in downtown Oklahoma City, a sea of 1600+ people sat on blankets, lawn chairs, or spent most of their time in line for the porta-pottys (unfortunately no Amy Winehouse ads) to watch the final film of the Dead Center Film Festival. The Flaming Lips U.F.O.s at the Zoo: The Legendary Concert in Oklahoma City was introduced by Wayne Coyne himself, along with fun blow-up friends, smoke machines, and confetti blasters!

During the showing Coyne walked through the crowd throwing streamers and getting the first reactions to the film. It was broken up between songs by back stage footage, fans tailgating, and the zoo’s permanent residents. I particularly enjoyed a montage showing just how much Coyne loves duct tape. It will be avalible from Warner Brothers on DVD July 10th.
