Like countless others, I have been awaiting a movie adaptation of The Simpsons since, oh…1989. I was very relieved that the movie not only delivered big laughs, but perhaps a late candidate for 2007’s song of the summer as well. I’m speaking, of course, about “Spider Pig” and I have been semi-consciously singing it all weekend. It’s still months away, but my fingers are crossed that “Spider Pig” gets an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song…

It was one of those spontaneous television moments you hope to see, although, given today’s post-Nipplegate precautions and the general uneventfulness of the medium - it almost never does. Twenty-five years ago tomorrow, wrestler Jerry “The King” Lawler slapped comedian Andy Kaufman on Late Night with David Letterman, striking through the plastic predictability of TV in a memorable moment that seemed to surprise everyone involved — Kaufman, Letterman, Lawler, and the viewers.
I’ll post the video clip below and you can read the entire transcript of the event here. Also, I’ve included R.E.M.’s “Man On The Moon” in honor of Mr. Andy Kaufman.

The trailer for Wes Anderson’s The Darjeeling Limited is now up on Apple’s website or you can watch the YouTube version:
The trailer and poster both say, “featuring music from the films of Satyajit Ray and Merchant Ivory” and it seems that longtime music collaborator/ex-Devo member Mark Mothersbaugh is sitting Darjeeling out. However, the trailer is complimented by a “mash-up” of two ace Kinks tracks that indicate Anderson’s music sensibilities are still spot-on. Darjeeling is scheduled for release on September 29!

If the above photo doesn’t give you an idea of what Beatles era is often associated with the Seattle band Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, then perhaps you should give their track “Hey Momma” a spin. When the song begins with confessions of being a “selfish bastard”, one may not anticipate the surprisingly fun trip ahead filled with pleasant vocal harmonies, whimsical pop orchestration, and (oh yeah!) handclaps.
Recently making their TV debut on “Last Call with Carson Daly”, KK&HWU proved themselves more than capable of skillfully translating their lush sound to live performances. KK&HWU are prepping for their upcoming full length album, having previously released a cassette-only(!) EP and live DVD/CD double-disc.
