More rockin’ nostalgia! To celebrate this summer’s 20th Anniversary of Guns N’ Roses’ 1987 debut album Appetite for Destruction, I wanted to put together a compilation of covers like Hypeful did for OK Computer. Midway through collecting covers of Destruction tracks, however, I discovered what can only be described as a major deficiency of good Destruction covers.
Instead of listening to poor Axl karaoke, I thought Hypeful readers might enjoy a dozen guns/roses-themed tracks to bring you to your shun-nah-nah-nah-nah knees!!!
MP3s:
The Alarmists - “Hired Gun”
Andrew Bird - “Honeysuckle Rose”
Beirut - “Elephant Gun”
Elvis Costello - “Good Year For The Roses”
Final Fantasy - “Flare Gun”
The Spinto Band - “Kiss From A Rose”
MIA - “Bucky Done Gun”
Sufjan Stevens - “Lo, How A Rose E’er Blooming”
Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers - “God Gave Me A Gun”
Tom Petty - “The Golden Rose”
Stars - “Celebration Guns”
Whiskeytown - “Somebody Remembers the Rose”

1How do any of these bands have anything to do with Guns and Roses? They dont, its just a list of songs that you can find on one thousand other blog sites

2It’s songs about guns/roses…not songs about Guns N’ Roses. *Doesn’t see the problem* It’s just a nice tie-in to the topic of the post and an excuse to highlight a bunch of good tracks…

3@ Dave: Ali nailed it. After compiling covers of about half the tracks from APPETITE, I realized none of them were really worth posting and decided to go with songs about guns/roses. Some artists need to step up with the GNR covers!
