Compact Disc Turns 25

Today is the 25th birthday of the compact disc! It’s been a quarter-century since Philips rolled the first CD off its production lines on August 17th, 1982, which history will forever remember - perhaps unfortunately - as a copy of ABBA’s The Visitors. Some 200 billion discs have been sold worldwide since its birth and the original shiny little platter is looking at its golden years as increasingly more convenient formats look to replace it.
To celebrate the event, I thought I would share the first track from that historic ABBA CD and ask Hypeful readers about the first CD you ever purchased. Feel free to leave your confessions in the comments!

My first CD purchase was Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid.” Not a bad first purchase, but I must admit I bought it for ‘Iron Man.’
