Following yesterday’s selection of The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir as a band to watch, it seems appropriate to also highlight Brighton, MA. After singer/songwriter Matthew Kerstein made the decision to leave The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, he effectively formed the new band Brighton, MA. Comprised of five members, the band’s name is a reference to the town Kerstein was born in and is as much a general statement about nostalgia and “going home again” as it is an actual location. Combining rustic vocals and honest lyrics, their music delivers exactly that kind of nostalgic backporch perspective without being overly sentimental.

The Decemberists have announced they’re releasing The Perfect Crime #2 EP, which will feature the band venturing into a new territory - the dancefloor! The EP will feature a collection of “The Perfect Crime #2″ remixes by the skillful likes of Diplo, Junior Boys and Touch of Class. In anticipation of the EP, the Junior Boys remix has been released just in time for the weekend! The EP will be available online September 25 at all your favorite Digital Service Providers and as 12″ vinyl at select independent record stores.

Here’s the brand new track “He Keeps Me Alive” off Swedish electronic artist Sally Shapiro’s anticipated US debut, Disco Romance. While many talented Swedes arrive in the States on a wave of ubiquitous buzz, Sally is somewhat of an enigma - she records under a pseudonym, refuses interviews, and even turns up at her own CD release parties in disguise. While some go so far as to doubt her actual existence, “He Keeps Me Alive” is shimmery synth-pop offering up convincing evidence that above any silly conspiracy theories - shy Sally’s talents are very real.
