The Decemberists Performing “The Perfect Crime #2″ & “Yankee Bayonet” (Live On Austin City Limits)

The Decemberists Live on Austin City Limits

Austin City Limits is kicking off its 33rd season with a premiere tomorrow night (10/13) featuring The Decemberists and Explosions in the Sky. If you can’t wait until the premiere to see the band perform and discuss Stephen Colbert’s favorite Decemberists description, you can catch their performances of “The Perfect Crime #2″ on the ACL site and “Yankee Bayonet” featuring Laura Veirs over at Stereogum (whom I owe thanks for the heads up). Sadly, it looks like they didn’t fit “Dracula’s Daughter” into their setlist after its ACL Fest debut this year.

New Flaming Lips - “Maybe I’m Not The One”

The Flaming Lips Marching Band

If you’ve got a broad gross-out comedy about mismatched romances released this fall, then Wayne Coyne may have just the song for your soundtrack! Having already contributed to the Good Luck Chuck soundtrack (along with some other mighty fine artists), The Flaming Lips have offered up two more spanking-new songs for the Farrelly brothers’ The Heartbreak Kid - “The Tale of the Horny Frog” and “Maybe I’m Not The One”. Both songs find The Lips getting their psychedelic mariachi on. Check out “Maybe I’m Not The One” below and head over to Salad Days Music if you’re interested in hearing “The Tale of the Horny Frog.”

DIY Cover Art For In Rainbows

Radiohead In Rainbow Cover Art

With a clever marketing scheme and DRM-free tracks, it’s hard to complain about Radiohead’s digital offering of In Rainbows. Unfortunately, if you’re an obsessive-compulsive iTunes organizer like myself, the lack of included cover art on Rainbows‘ digital tracks was disappointing. While waiting for artist Stanley Donwood to reveal the album’s final cover, fans have taken it upon themselves to design some really nice artwork for their iTunes placeholders. You should be able to find a suitable cover to use in this batch until the final art is revealed.

Free CMJ Digital Sampler

LET’S GET DIGITAL 3

For those of us unfortunately not able to make it to NYC for CMJ next week (and for you lucky folks who are), Insound has teamed up with the fest to offer a free digital sampler of bands playing this year’s music marathon. It’s an excellent sneak preview of the bands playing and a great opportunity to hear some great tracks from artists you haven’t heard yet. You can download the album here.

The Complete Beatles in One Hour

The Beatles Abbey Road with iPods

Have you ever wanted to listen to the entire Beatles LP collection but just can’t find the time in your busy schedule? Don’t worry - that Micro Machines guy hasn’t recorded a Beatles cover album. Artist Steve McLaughlin has compressed all of the UK Beatles LPs into a single, 1-hour MP3 by increasing their tempo by 800%. In the time it takes to have two pizzas delivered, you can breeze through the Beatles library and can get back to listening to In Rainbows.
