Kid Rufus Wainwright Sings “I’m Runnin’”

Young Rufus Wainwright Sings I’m Runnin’ from Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler

Approximately 20 years before he channeled Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, Rufus Wainwright was getting his croon on as “Singer” in the 1988 film Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler. Rufus contributed and performed the song “I’m Runnin’,” which according to IMDB earned him a Genie Award nomination for Best Original Song. Check out the mall-tastic clips from the film below - it’s truly 80’s cinema at its finest. (On a sidenote, the title of the song reminded me of another “Runnin’” song sung by Maya Rudolph from one of my fave SNL sketches…)

One Response to “Kid Rufus Wainwright Sings “I’m Runnin’””

  1. Good God, he even sounds like himself there, as a little kid. And what’s with the absolutely perfect New Wave smirk he’s got going on?

That SNL skit is one of my favorites of all time. “Some of the greatest women to ever sing in front of wood paneling.”
