New Cloverfield Trailer Hits the Web

Cloverfield Trailer

Hypeful admittedly doesn’t post nearly enough about film, but attach J.J. Abrams‘ name to a project and I am already there. Shrouded in secrecy with a viral marketing campaign to boot, Cloverfield has to be one of the most anticipated films of 2008 - despite the fact nobody really knows what it’s about! Speculation says it’s about a group of people with camcorders as they try to stay alive during a monster attack on New York City (think: the Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla). Check out the newly released Cloverfield trailer and see if it intrigues you or just makes you anticpate Abrams’ Lost returning to TV even more….

Bonus! Xiu Xiu singing “Clover” and some Field Music! (Get it - Clover Field Music?!?)

Corgan Gives Kids The Greatest Day [They've] Ever Known

Billy Corgan kid halloween costume Smashing Pumpkins

Hey, parents - instead of initiating class-action lawsuits for Hannah Montana tickets maybe you should consider taking the kids to a Pumpkins show instead? After their 3-year-old son Fallon said he wanted to be “Smashing Pumpkins” for Halloween, a Birmingham couple obliged the young fan’s wishes by making him an outfit like the one Billy Corgan is using on tour this year (see the above photo). Last week, the couple further made their son’s rock dreams come true by taking Fallon to a Pumpkins show in Atlanta dressed, of course, in his Corgan costume. After spotting Fallon in his outfit, Corgan said, ‘Hey, there’s a little Billy! Can we get him down here on stage?’ By the time Fallon got to the stage, Corgan had called all the kids in the audience up. Video of the event is below after the jump - check out the kids using the spotlight to plug their band!

Demetri Martin and David Cross Do Celeb Music Blindfold Test

Demetri Martin David Cross

Comedians David Cross and Demetri Martin courageously subjected their ears to five songs of dubious worth by celebrities and had their funny reactions recorded. First up is “Respect Yourself” by Bruce Willis, for which the clever duo said the following:

Demetri Martin: It’s like they turned on everything in the studio.

David Cross: And just got professionals to cover up whoever’s shitty vocals those are and idea that is, whoever’s vanity project. Was that Bruce Willis?

Yeah, that was Bruce Willis.

David Cross: Ironically, he’s talking about respecting yourself, and he picked the absolute worst medium to get that across.

Demetri Martin: Well, that’s why it’s not called “Respect Myself.”

Make sure to check out the rest of the article and, if you’re a glutton for harmonica-laden vanity projects, check out “Respect Yourself” below. Also, you may have missed Hypeful’s previous 5 Surprising Actors Turned Musicians.

Dylan-White Collaboration On The Way?

Jack White Bob Dylan

Following a series of music link-ups, Jack White could be set to record with Bob Dylan for a new music collaboration. Besides both being fans of villainous moustaches, White has joined Dylan onstage before and contributed to the legend’s radio show. Recently White has recorded on some unfinished Hank Williams songs for a project Dylan is coordinating. Steppin’ In It bassist Dominic Suchyta, an old friend of White’s who worked on the Hank project with him, has helped fuel rumors about the future collaboration by saying he believed there is every chance of it actually happening.

Hypeful About Oklahoma’s Centennial

Oklahoma Sign Centennial 100 years of statehood

Today marks Oklahoma’s centennial of statehood, having officially joined the Union on Nov. 16, 1907 and becoming the 46th state. “The Centenn” (as many of my Oklahoman friends have dubbed it) has been an ongoing celebration in the state over the past year. Tonight in Oklahoma City, the Centennial Spectacular will bring together a variety of the Sooner State’s brightest musical stars, ranging from Carrie Underwood to (oh, yes) The Flaming Lips. To help celebrate its 100 years of statehood, Hypeful presents an Oklahoma-themed music mix you’ll hopefully find more than O.K.!
