New Apes & Androids - “Golden Prize”

Apes & Androids

Apes & Androids have announced their new album, Blood Moon, by sharing a track from it entitled “Golden Prize.” If you’re unfamiliar with the New York band futurist orchestra who’ve garnered attention during the past year or so for their highly theatrical glam-electro performances, their new album comes packed with an almost guarantee not to be boring. If you need further evidence, A&A adapted this quote from an actual Transformers movie review to describe Blood Moon:

“It’s long and loud and everything about it is big: from the massive riffs, the pounding score and the band itself, which towers above everything and everyone in this mega-budget sonic explosion.”

Check out “Golden Prize” below and head over to A&A’s MySpace for more tunes.

New Futureheads - “Broke Up The Time”

Futureheads

Although their new album isn’t expected to drop until sometime in 2008, The Futureheads have offered up a bit of the future for your head with the spanking-new track entitled “Broke Up The Time.” This is the first glimpse of their third record, which is expected to be a punkier and less restrained venture than their last outing. Grab it below and give it a spin.

Kid Rufus Wainwright Sings “I’m Runnin’”

Young Rufus Wainwright Sings I’m Runnin’ from Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler

Approximately 20 years before he channeled Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, Rufus Wainwright was getting his croon on as “Singer” in the 1988 film Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveler. Rufus contributed and performed the song “I’m Runnin’,” which according to IMDB earned him a Genie Award nomination for Best Original Song. Check out the mall-tastic clips from the film below - it’s truly 80’s cinema at its finest. (On a sidenote, the title of the song reminded me of another “Runnin’” song sung by Maya Rudolph from one of my fave SNL sketches…)

Radiohead Webcast - Thumbs_Down

Radiohead Webcast Thumbs Down Radiohead.tv

Radiohead fired up their webcam on Friday night and it wasn’t to urge people to leave Britney alone! Instead, the webcast (entitled thumbs_down) featured the band members spinning their favorite tracks (including a Kenny Rogers’ tune!!!), playing some funny videos, and - yes - performing live. Highlights from the evening include a remixed clip of Se7en’s climax replacing Gwenyth Paltrow with Thom’s head in the box (singing “15 Step” nonetheless), Ed sharing a “tender moment” by reciting “The Burial of Sir John Moore After Corunna” by Charles Wolfe, Stanley drawing on a chalkboard, and DJ/comedian Adam Buxton discussing the “rebranding” of Thom so that people don’t think he’s so “miserable”.
