Babyshambles Pete Doherty banjo

Drummer Adam Ficek has posted the new Babyshambles tune “Pretty Sue” (cowritten by Ficek and Pete Doherty) to his MySpace page. Recorded live at one of the band’s recent tour dates, Ficek promises that other new tracks “Maybeline,” “Peter’s new one,” “1939,” and “Mouse In The House” would also be posted online sometime soon.

Billboard’s 25 Best Rock Posters of All Time

JIMI HENDRIX JOHN MAYALL ALBERT KING Billboard Best Rock Poster of All Time

Here’s a fun list - Billboard has ranked and put together a gallery of the 25 Best Rock Posters of All Time. Coming in at the top spot is a poster for Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall, and Albert King. Thankfully, the list isn’t all old-school - the poster for the 2007 Coachella festival made it to number 4!

Hot Hot Heat Covers Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab”

Hot Hot Heat Steve Bays Budweiser Beer Bar Cover Amy Winehouse Rehab

In addition to their new video, I thought I would help Hypeful reach its unnecessary Winehouse-reference quota by sharing a “Rehab” cover by Hot Hot Heat from an XFM session. In contrast to the brassy soul of Winehouse’s original version, HHH’s jagged guitars and Steve Bays’ idiosyncratic voice give the song a kind of manic vibe - like someone desperately searching for beers after last call. You’ve been there, right?

30 Rock’s Cougar Boy Is A Musician

30 Rock Val Emmich Cougars Music Frank Jaymie Jamie Gay

I finally got around to seeing last week’s 30 Rock “Cougars” episode. The story line around Liz dating a much younger guy named Jamie delivered some big laughs (like Liz’s refusal to shop at Abercrombie & Fitch because it’s “too loud” and Frank going “gay for Jamie”). Apparently some viewers also went “gay for Jamie” and discovered that Val Emmich (who played Jamie in the ep) is also a pop musician. Although Emmich has a reoccurring role on another upcoming TV series with Lucy Liu, it seems he’s more interested in a music career. You can stream some of his guitar-pop songs on Emmich’s MySpace page and still watch the “Cougars” ep on NBC’s site.

If Emmich’s music isn’t your thing, how about Jenna Maroney performing “Muffin Top” with Ghostface? Or there’s still Tracy Jordan’s “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah”…

Free Download - Hanni El Khatib’s Bullfighter’s Heart EP

Hanni El Khatib Bullfighter’s Heart EP Free Download

December is really proving to be a month of giving. Indie folkster (and frequent Her Space Holiday collaborator) Hanni El Khatib has generously made his Bullfighter’s Heart EP available for free download all this month before it goes on sale at the beginning of next year. Although Hanni claims that he wrote his “songs for anyone who’s ever been shot or hit by a train,” Hypeful suspects an emergency room visit won’t be necessary to dig into his blend of folk, blues, and indie rock. The 5 song EP can be downloaded from his MySpace page during December and I’ll post two below to help get you started.
