It shouldn’t surprise you that Of Montreal has a l’il Bollywood in them - and that’s not a reference to Kevin Barnes’ private parts. Of Montreal has actually done an ace cover of M.I.A.’s “Jimmy,” which you may know was itself a cover of Parvati Khan’s “Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Aaja” from the 1982 Bollywood movie Disco Dancer. Slower and more hushed than its predecessors, Of Montreal have reworked the song without sacrificing any of the fun or catchiness of the original. Just in time for your weekend playlists, check out all three versions below.

Known for dropping videos loaded with eye candy, Missy Elliott’s new video “Ching-A-Ling” is being released in 3-D and is almost certain to be a visual blast. In a YouTube era of seeing most new music videos in pixels, it’s exciting to see Missy joining artists like Arcade Fire and MGMT in presenting their videos in creative new ways. After the jump, check out the locations/times to find out where you can pick up your 3D glasses before the video’s premiere on February 4th.
(Further good news for lovers of the third dimension - Pixar announced today that the first two Toy Story movies are to be remade in 3D ahead of the release of Toy Story 3 in June 2010!)

If you want another sneak peak at Jack Johnson’s forthcoming album, Sleep Through the Static EW is streaming the new track “Hope”. Although “Hope” doesn’t really stretch JJ’s laid-back stylings, his fifth album is supposed to be a decidedly more electric affair than what fans are used to hearing from the surfer.

The Juno soundtrack has certainly increased Moldy Peaches’ fame in the U.S. (and scored them gigs on The View!), but a toothpaste ad has made the anti-folk duo stars in South America. A Pepsodent ad featured the band’s song “Jorge Regula” without their permission. Although it was getting the Peaches heavy play on radio and TV in South America, Adam Green told NME, “The only reason we found out about the commercial was we started winning awards for best commercial of the year in Argentina.” It’s a pity that the toothpaste company didn’t give the duo a proper opportunity to sell out - Hypeful would love to see an ad featuring “Who’s Got the Crack?” Check out the ad below.

With their writers’ ongoing strike, late night hosts have done more than just grow beards - they’ve turned to the undeniable power of song! (Remember Conan’s “Blue Moon of Kentucky”?) On Tuesday’s (January 22nd) Colbert Report, Stephen paid tribute to his writers by performing “Let My People Go” - lead by Stephen himself, backed up by Andrew Young, Malcom Gladwell (the night’s first guest), and the Harlem Gospel Choir! Check out the video below while it lasts! (Thanks to Pop Candy for the heads up!)

Paris should bestow the key to their city to Vincent from La Blogotheque for his consistently incredible Take-Away Shows, which currently features Vampire Weekend playing around the French capitol. Although vampires are typically adverse to light, Vincent has captured Vampire Weekend performing at their best in the City of Lights. Check out the clips below!

Hot Chip have released the title track from the upcoming album, Made In The Dark. You probably knew that the boys were skilled at crafting dance floor-fillers, but “Made In The Dark” shows that the band is equally capable of creating intimate and melancholy songs for your headphones.

It seems to be a hot week for musicians and morning talk shows. Ringo Starr broke from his “amiable Beatle” reputation earlier today when he walked off the set of Live With Regis and Kelly rather than cut short one of his songs. Due to miscommunication between his publicist and the show’s musical director, Starr didn’t realize his performance, which was an estimated 4 minutes and 15 seconds in length, had to be an anemic 2 1/2 minutes or less. Refusing to make the changes, Ringo left saying, “God bless and goodbye. We still love Regis.” Has there ever been a more true statement?

The line-up for Coachella 2008 (April 25-27) has been officially confirmed. Contrary to Pitchfork’s lukewarm reaction, Hypeful thinks there’s plenty of good artists on this year’s bill. Tickets for Coachella go on sale Friday (January 25) at 10:00 AM (PT) via TicketMaster and you can check out the full line-up after the jump!

If you were up early drinking a gallon of Sunny D yesterday, you may have caught The Moldy Peaches on The View performing “Anyone Else But You” and briefly chatting up host Whoopi Goldberg. It’s cool that they’re helping to promote the Juno soundtrack, but you can’t help but think Juno herself would shudder at the idea of Kimya Dawson and Adam Green appearing on the morning gabfest.
