New ¡Forward, Russia! - “Breaking Standing” & “We Are Grey Matter”

Forward Russia

It appears that ¡Forward, Russia! is moving, um, forward on their upcoming sophomore album, Life Processes. The band has done away with the numerically titled tracks featured on their first album and the first single, “Breaking Standing” hints at a slightly less raw sound from the Leeds group. Unfortunately, Life Processes doesn’t drop Stateside until June, but you can preview “Breaking Standing” and checkout the official track list below. Also, the band is streaming another new track, “We Are Grey Matter”, over on their MySpace page.

Help This American Life Come to a Theater Near You

This American Life Ira Glass

Here’s the deal - This American Life is planning a stage show that would be filmed and sent live—live!—via satellite to movie theaters across the country. It would include host Ira Glass performing a radio piece, never-before-seen stories and outtakes from the second season of the excellent TLA TV series, an audience Q&A via satellite with theater attendees, and much more. No other public radio program has tried this before, which makes it a very exciting event. But to make it happen, TLA needs to know if you’re interested (which you most definitely should be). TLA is asking for your input on how to craft the event by taking this very short survey (it’ll take less than two minutes).

As if you need more convincing to take the survey, here’s a trailer for the first superb season and an audio clip from last year’s live tour featuring Ira discussing “radio on TV,” his love of The O.C., and Mates of State performing The O.C.’s theme song (”California”).

New R.E.M. - “Supernatural Superserious”

R.E.M. Supernatural Superserious

Yeah, the title is “Honest to blog!” cringe-worthy and it’s been a while since they’ve released a stellar album, but “Supernatural Superserious” strongly indicates that it may not be the end of R.E.M. as we know them. As the first single from the band’s forthcoming album, Accelerate, it’s like an aural time machine that takes you back to sometime in the 90’s (when you still got truly excited for new tracks from Stipe, Buck, and Mills!).

Previously on Lost Band Recaps Eps With Songs

Lost Logo

Following on the heels of Harry Potter and “wizard rock“, Lost fandom is spinning-off its own genre of music best described as “recap rock”. A new band called Previously On Lost is posting a new song on their MySpace page each week that summarizes the previous show and offers commentary. The first tune, “We’re Goin’ Home”, is about the season 4 premiere and it’s a “cute and catchy” antithesis of the creepy voiceover usually heard at the begining of each episode. (Thanks to Pop Candy for the heads up!)

New Dr. Dog - “A Long Time Ago”

Dr. Dog

Dr. Dog’s upcoming release is a collection of rarities entitled Passed Away (out March 4th). Contrary to the album title, Dr. Dog have resuscitated and re-mastered an assortment of 4-track recordings made over the past five years leading up to 2007’s We All Belong. The band is also currently working on a new studio album to be released later this year, but check out the track “A Long Time Ago” below for a glance at Dr. Dog’s past and their upcoming material on Passed Away.
