Hearing the writer’s strike may end soon, I finally watched the last episode of 30 Rock from early January that I was hoarding for emergency entertainment purposes. Tina Fey drunk on wine and singing Alanis Morissette? Awesome. The entire cast getting their inner-Pip on and singing Gladys Knight? Also, awesome. It may be a tad belated, but Hypeful can’t let a great 30 Rock tune slip by without a mention.

When it comes to monikers, Chris Thile is like the P. Diddy of the bluegrass world. Since forming his new band after the 2006 break-up of Nickel Creek, Thile has watched his group’s name change three times. Formerly know as “The How to Grow a Band” and “The Tensions Mountain Boys,” Thile’s group has finally settled on the “Punch Brothers” and will release their debut album, Punch, on February 26. Punch includes four new tracks and the premiere recording of “The Blind Leaving the Blind” - Thile’s forty minute suite in four movements. “Punch Bowl” is the first track on the album and gives you a preview of what to expect from Punch Brothers’ style, which has been described as introducing “bluegrass instrumentation and spontaneity in the strictures of modern classical.”

Happy Groundhog Day 2008 - woah, wait…six more weeks of winter?!? There is no way this winter is ever going to end as long as that groundhog keeps seeing his shadow. I don’t see any way out of it. He’s got to be stopped…

Spoon frontman Britt Daniel is featured on Cooking With Rockstars discussing the Austin eateries he goes “ga ga” for (including Matt’s El Rancho, Taco Xpress, Ruby’s BBQ, and The Salt Lick) and his penchant for sweets (namely, Cinnamon Toast Crunch). Come on, Ben & Jerry - give Spoon their own flavor based on Britt’s recipe for Cinnamon Toast Crunch Ice Cream! It should be easy enough to name, the band is called Spoon! Last night Sarah Silverman went on Jimmy Kimmel Live to congratulate Kimmel on the fifth anniversary of his talkshow. Silverman also took the time to premiere a new music video featuring People’s Sexiest Man Alive/Jason Bourne, which is probably going to go viral like a cross-strain of bird flu and an SNL digital short. Heads up - even though the naughty word in the title is bleeped throughout the clip for network’s sake, it’s kind of NSFW (like most of Silverman’s material). Check out the song and video below!
