New Björk Video - “Wanderlust”

Björk Wanderlust Music Video Volta

Björk’s new video for “Wanderlust” premiered today and, once again, it has Hypeful searching for the Icelandic translation of “visual showstopper.” As if featuring Björk as a river sherpa battling her clay doppelgänger against a Himalayan landscape wasn’t enough of a guarantee for a visual feast, the 3D version will be available on a DVD (3-D glasses included!) accompanying the remix-laden “Wanderlust” single (April 14th). For now, you can enjoy the 2D version below!

Elvis Presley Madonna Mariah Carey Records

The digital releases of Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body” and Madonna’s “4 Minutes” has meant that two records previously set by Elvis Presley are set to leave the proverbial building this coming week. Both songs received enough digital downloads to put Carey on track to collect her 18th No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and score Madonna a comfortable position in the Top 10. That will push Carey to second place among artists with the most No. 1s in the rock era. (The record is held by the Beatles with 20; Carey is currently tied with Elvis Presley.) Madonna’s new track will be her 37th Top 10 hit (beating out Elvis’ previous set record of 36) and put her in the position as the artist with the most Top 10 hits in music history. Your move, Josh Groban.

Adam Green Drunk TV Total Stefan Raab German Talk Show Beer

Having apparently consumed an entire Oktoberfest, a very drunk Adam Green appeared on German talkshow TV total last week where he sat in the host’s lap, joked about serving in Iraq with Hanson, and performed his new single “Mornign After Midnight.” Too bad Adam didn’t take a page from the DeVito/Limoncello playbook when he was on The View back in January. American talkshows need more drunken interviews and Tracy Morgan, Quentin Tarantino, and Paula Abdul can’t do it all themselves!

Her Space Holiday Wolf Parade Black Cat I’ll Believe In Anything

Her Space Holiday has done an ace cover of Wolf Parade’s “I’ll Believe In Anything.” Remember Spencer Krug’s appeals for sunshine in the original version of Wolf Parade’s infectiously ragged anthem? Her Space Holiday has responded by parting the grey clouds and reworking the track into an upbeat singalong. It’s highly recommended for your listening pleasure, but be warned - it packs the earworm catchiness of the original and is just as likely to get stuck in your head on repeat!

Phantom Planet Raise the Dead

Perhaps best known for their sunny ode to The Golden State that kicked off The O.C. each week, Phantom Planet’s upcoming release, Raise the Dead (April 15th), is a surprisingly darker affair - a concept album built around the themes of a cult and the occult. Sweet Zombie Marissa Cooper!!! The title track shows that the band’s new style has taken a sharp turn towards epic, Arcade Fire-style anthem building. Stream “Raise the Dead” below!

The Black Keys Strange Times Lazer Tag

Pity the kids who find themselves going up against The Black Keys in laser tag. In the new clip for their single, “Strange Times” from Attack and Release (April 1st), Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney aren’t content with merely tagging - they attack…with real lasers! (”Mom! Call 9-1-1!!!”) If the new vid leaves you wanting to laser-kill some nerds, you can do it safely (aw, shucks) on the band’s website in a desktop version of the game.

The Shoes Polaroids Knock Out

Take note fans of electro-pop and indie foot fetishists! Hotly-tipped French dance band The Shoes have been taking pictures of their famous friends’ shoes, and are giving an autographed polaroid of a different star’s feet away free with each copy of their new 7″ single “Knock Out”. There are some 300 unique polaroids in all to collect and trade with your friends, featuring such artists as Band of Horses, Bloc Party, the Cribs, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, MGMT, and “Barry-Gwen Stefani’s maintenance man.” (Don’t be surprised to see Barry at SXSW next year…) I wonder if polaroid-enthusiast Jason Schwartzman/Coconut Records makes an appearance…

Dr Pepper Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy Axl Rose

Axl Rose is surprisingly cool about Dr. Pepper’s offer to give everyone (except Slash and guitarist Buckethead) a free can of soda if Guns n’ Roses finally release Chinese Democracy this year. Rose said the following via a press release:

“We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr. Pepper with our album Chinese Democracy, as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr. Pepper with him.”

Looks like Slash will have to buy his own can. Come on, Axl - stop responding to soft drink companies and pull a Jack White on us! Don’t make us call Tommy Hilfiger. (Thanks to Dan for the heads up!)

Dr Pepper Guns N Roses Chinese Democracy Axl Rose

Dr Pepper has offered its help to solve one of rock music’s greatest challenges - getting Axl Rose to finally release the decade-in-the-works Guns N’ Roses album Chinese Democracy. The soft drink company has launched a blog and says it will give a free can of Dr Pepper to “everyone in America” (excluding ex-GNR members Slash and Buckethead) if Chinese Democracy arrives anytime during the calendar year 2008. While they’re at it, maybe Dr Pepper can do something to help solve Smashing Pumpkins’ PepsiGate.
