Gnarls Barkley have just dropped the video for their new single, “Going On.” Shot in Jamaica, the video follows a group of friends as they “celebrate their discovery of a portal into another dimension” as a series of yellow words guide them. Don’t worry - you won’t need a mirror to read the words this time…

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has penned an open letter to Metallica asking them not to release their new album unless it’s “kick-ass.” You guessed it - it’s a slow news day! Anyhoo, the letter from Grohl reads:
“Dear METALLICA,
“Hey, it’s Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I’m the guy that’s been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album ‘Kill ‘Em All’ from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can’t remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I’ve been listening to your albums ever since (even ‘St Anger’!).
“I can’t wait to hear the new shit, and no matter what you guys do I’ll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I’m sure you’ll come out and blow everybody’s fuckin’ minds, because you’re fuckin’ METALLICA!
“Good luck. And don’t release it until it’s kick-ass.
“Yours, Dave Grohl.
“P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?”
So, there’s that…

Ever wished you had something to listen to in between those late night viewings of Futurama and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!? Record label Ghostly International and modern late-night cult classic programmers [Adult Swim] have joined forces to release Ghostly Swim - a genre-busting compilation of 19 new tracks. The best part? They’re giving it away Reznor-style (i.e., as an absolutely free download)!

John Mayer’s comedy résumé is increasingly ambitous and impressive - including some stand-up, a VH1 variety show, a 2 Girls 1 Cup parody, and (of course) a bright green Borat-style man thong. So, it shouldn’t be too surprising that his latest viral video (entitled Makin’ Music with John Mayer) was produced by Judd Apatow and features Kristen Bell and J.B. “Get In That Ass” Smoove, right? Right?!? The very funny clip features the guitarist giving fans a glimpse behind the scenes of his song-writing process and an exposé of why he needs a drug addict-for-hire, an angry focus group and a team of songwriters to help pen tracks about “when you’re fucking one supermodel and you make the other ones jealous.”

Fresh out of the hooskow, Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has posted the demo of a new song, “Maybelline,” and its accompanying video online. The video features Doherty and model Irina Lazareanu getting their film noir on and acting out a brief murder mystery. Babyshambles is expected to soon begin work on their new album, which may feature this new demo.

The exotic dancers of Rick’s Cabaret & Steakhouse NYC recently voted on their 5 Favorite Songs To Strip To, which yielded the following wildly surprising results:
5. “Umbrella” by Rihanna
4. “Cupid’s Chokehold” by Gym Class Heroes
3. “The Theme Song to the Family Guy Cartoon TV Show”
2. “Sensual Seduction” by Snoop Dogg
1. “Nude” by Radiohead
That’s right - a down-tempo and despondent ballad by Thom Yorke managed to edge out a nasally-sung theme to an animated TV series! Something tells me the ladies of Rick’s wouldn’t fare too well on Rock of Love. Oh well - here are the aforementioned tracks to help sharpen your pole skills! (via Best Week Ever)

The Morning Benders dropped their debut full-length album, Talking Through Tin Cans, today. The Berkeley-based quartet’s music is perfect for this time of year, which is why you should put their new track “Boarded Doors” on your iPod and walk down to your local record store to pick it up. If you live in the LA/SF area, you can also order the entire album directly from the band and receive a free ticket to one of their sure-to-be-awesome record release shows!

Producer Mark Ronson has given yet another update in the ongoing ping-pong of Amy Winehouse’s involvement in recording a theme for the new James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace. Despite his optimism about the track just days ago, Ronson says the duo have now abandoned recording the theme and it would take “some miracle of science” to finish it.

Whammy! From the department of answered prayers, comes word from Anchorman director Adam McKay that a sequel to the Will Ferrell comedy is in the works! Luckily, Stepbrothers looks like an entertaining enough of a distraction while we wait for the return of the Channel 4 news-team!
