Hypeful’s First Anniversary

Paper Anniversary

On May 16th, Hypeful celebrated its one-year anniversary of being on the internets! In keeping up with traditions and celebrating Hypeful’s “paper anniversary,”
I decided to round up some songs about paper to say thanks for a great first year!

In the meantime, I look forward to another year of Hypeful and bringing you some exciting new features and changes in the coming weeks!

(Sidenote: Unfortunately, due to an ill-timed defect with my iBook’s power adapter (and about 2.3 million other Mac users, apparantly), you may have noticed that Hypeful has been neglected over the past week!)

MP3:
M.I.A. - “Paper Planes”
Cassettes Won’t Listen - “Paper Float”
Spoon - “Paper Tiger”
The Paper Chase - “Said The Spider To The Fly”
Death Cab For Cutie - “Champagne from a Paper Cup”
Beck (Feat. The Flaming Lips) - “Paper Tiger”

Top 20 Super Hero Songs

Top 20 Super Hero Songs Comic Book Music Pop Art

Between the successful release of Iron Man (sorry, Speed Racer) and the mounting anticipation for The Incredible Hulk, The Dark Knight, and Hellboy 2, some have already dubbed 2008 the greatest summer in comic book film history! The noticeable influx of comics at the local cineplex got Hypeful to thinking about their influence on music. After all, there are buckets of songs influenced by super heroes and their tales…but what are the best ones?

After narrowing down an extensive list and making some very difficult decisions, Hypeful submits for your approval the Top 20 Super Hero Songs! (However, in order to keep a diverse list of songs and prevent certain heroes *ahem*Superman*ahem* from dominating, the rule was made that no one hero could appear more than twice.) Put on your cape and get ready to check out the list after the jump! Feel free to share your favorite super hero songs in the comments!

Arcade Fire Score Donnie Darko Director’s New Film

Arcade Fire Richard Kelly Win Butler Régine Chassagne

Despite the speculative indie crisis that Arcade Fire was taking an extended break, good news has broke that they are actually busy recording the film soundtrack to Donnie Darko director Richard Kelly’s next film The Box. For the soundtrack Arcade Fire are working with producer Markus Dravs, who most recently worked with Coldplay on their upcoming album, Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Based on the 1970 short story “Button, Button” by author Richard Matheson and previously adapted for an episode of The Twilight Zone (posted below), the film will star Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a couple who receive a box with a mysterious power.

30 Rock’s Jenna Croons Olympic Ballad For Kenneth The Page

30 Rock Jane Krakowski Jenna Maroney Kenneth the Page Olympics I See Myself In You

The season finale of 30 Rock, entitled “Cooter,” delivered many splendid things - an excuse for Hypeful to finally use the word “cooter,” special guest star Matthew Broderick delivering the ha-ha’s, and Jenna singing an Olympic-inspired ballad about Kenneth’s “mind, bod-day, and spirit!” Aside from Michael Stipe asking about the frequency, songs about Kenneths don’t get any more ear-wormy or hilarious than this!
