Uh oh - The Creaky Boards are accusing Chris Martin of stealing a song, after the Coldplay frontman allegedly attended a performance by the Brooklyn band at the CMJ music festival last October. The songs at the center of the plagiarism controversy are the Creaky Boards’ über-ironically titled “The Songs I Didn’t Write” and the title track from Coldplay’s latest mega-hit album, “Viva La Vida.” Although Coldplay is adamantly denying the plagiarism allegations, a recently released video by Creaky Boards frontman Andrew Hoepfner indicates his band isn’t giving up its battle against Apple’s dad. Read more about the controversy here, check out Hoepfner’s video below, listen to the two songs below to make your own comparisons, and leave your thoughts in the comments! Magesongs Music Publishing

5I’m a music publisher, and certanly can see closeness between the two songs. But a bigger part of the songs are different. The parts that are close do not have the melody exactly the same on a one line. Parts of the lines are different. The rhythm and key are the same, tempo very similar. But none of these are copyright issues.
If this song is a plagiarism issue, then so many songs today sounds like something else I’ve heard before. Then someone could have accused Bob Dylan soong “Make You Feel My Love” on his DYLAN album a copied from Julian Lennon’s “Saltwater”. Never heard any comment on that and oh so many other songs.

7Dude, those songs are totally different. Someone claims ‘copyright infringement’ on pretty much every song that ever hits #1…yours just doesn’t sound enough like Coldplay’s to hold up to scrutiny. Your band is probably great, and I hope you’re getting some good publicity from this.
