Chromeo Records Track With Daryl Hall

Chromeo Daryl Hall Hall And Oates Live From Daryl’s House website

Electro-funk duo Chromeo have teamed up with easy-listening legend Daryl Hall (of Hall and Oates fame, natch) for a very special recording. The track will be released on Hall’s very-own website, which features the musician playing along with other artists (like KT Tunstall and Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy) in perhaps the most intimate of all settings - Hall’s house. Wonder if he’ll record a duet with John Oates…

The R. Kelly Post-Acquittal Cover Song Collection

R. Kelly Not Guilty Trial Robert Kelly 14 counts of child pornography jury verdict Cook County Remix

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, R&B megastar R. Kelly was found not guilty last week after a well-publicized trial involving kiddie porn charges. If there’s one lesson to be learned from one of his signature raunchy club hits, it’s that now is probably a good time to celebrate - perhaps in a hotel lobby until 4 AM or something. Unfortunately, Hypeful doesn’t have the scratch to send R. Kelly a couple of congratulatory Cristal bottles. So instead, here are five cover songs of R. Kelly’s music for your post-acquittal enjoyment!

New Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band - “Danny Callahan” & “Souled Out!!!”

Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band Album Bright Eyes Flowers Side Project Mexico

Here’s something I know you kids will like - two brand spanking-new tracks off the forthcoming album (August 5th) from Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band! Recorded in Tepoztlán, Mexico last winter, “Danny Callahan” and (the awesomely titled) “Souled Out!!!” are the first tracks to emerge off of Conor’s first solo album in thirteen years. Also, it appears that the Mystic Valley Band is going to be touring this album all over the globe (including stops here in the states). So, I guess it’s safe to say that the Mystic Valley Mystery is almost a closed-case. What do you think of the results?

Christmas On Mars @ deadCENTER (OKC, OK) 6/13/08

Christmas On Mars Wayne Coyne Alien Flaming Lips Movie Film deadCenter Popcorn Eat Your Own Spaceship

There are two things I never thought I would get to type in 2008:

#1: I have finally seen Christmas On Mars in its entirety.

#2: Christmas On Mars is an amazing achievement that manages to live up to the hype, even after 6+ years of waiting.

On a stormy Friday the 13th nearing midnight, I found myself packed into a circus tent to watch the film along with approximately 150 Flaming Lips fans and the band/filmmakers themselves. It may not have come early, but Christmas was about to finally come to Oklahoma City! Always the proverbial circus ringleader, Wayne Coyne was working overtime to set the screening up as part of deadCENTER Film Fest and create an event that was way more unique than your average film viewing experience.

Was Bonnaroo M.I.A’s Last Gig Ever?

M.I.A. Bonnaroo Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam

Is M.I.A. about to go M.I.A.? Following the cancellation of her forthcoming UK tour, the recently-engaged rapper called her performance at Bonnaroo her “last show ever” while onstage at the festival over the weekend. According to the New York Times, she repeated that it was her last show three times, and said “thanks for coming to my last gig,” before leaving the stage. Say it ain’t so, Maya…
