New Old 97’s Video - “Dance With Me”

Old 97’s Dance With Me Music Video Battlestar Galactica BSG Tricia Helfer 6 Kung Fu Rhett Miller Blame It On Gravity

The Old 97’s new music video for “Dance With Me” is frackin’ awesome! If I lost you at “frack,” allow me to rephrase. It’s like a mash-up of Battlestar Galactica and the Crazy 88 bar-fight scene from Kill Bill, but set to the hot new single from Rhett Miller and company. In other words, pure geek awesomeness! (Thanks to the musical Cylons over at Salad Days Music for the heads up!)

New Black Kids - “Hurricane Jane”

Black Kids Hurricane Jane Headphones Bunny Ears Rabbit

After Black Kids’ debut single “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You” set the blogosphere a-buzzin’ and subsequently became a certifiable chart hit in the UK, the quintet are tipped to further explode this summer with their eagerly-anticipated debut LP Partie Traumatic (July 7th). If you feel a little déjà vu after listening to the Kids’ first single from the upcoming album, “Hurricane Jane,” it’s not just because the vocals are awesomely reminiscent of The Cure. It’s because the track originally appeared on their Wizard of Ahhhsdemo EP. However, this reworked version packs a better punch with 44 seconds trimmed off and much tighter production.

Jimi Hendrix’s Famous Burnt Guitar To Be Auctioned Off

Jimi Hendrix Fire Guitar 1965 Fender Stratocaster London Astoria Auction

If you happen to have an extra £250,000 lying around (that’s $486,802 to us Yanks), you may want to consider buying the 1965 Fender Stratocaster guitar that Jimi Hendrix famously set fire to at the London Astoria on March 31, 1967. That’s the price tag that is expected to be raised from the guitar, which had been kept in storage for the past 40 years and is set to be auctioned this summer. (It would also make a lovely gift for Hypeful…just sayin’…)

Calexico Set To Wake Up Astronauts

Calexico Joey Burns John Convertino Space Shuttle Discovery Commander Mark Kelly Representative Gabrielle Giffords Arizona 8th Congressional District Space Astronauts NASA Astronaut Crystal Frontier

Calexico is set to change space from the final frontier to the crystal frontier! During shuttle flights, friends and family of astronauts are allowed to bring out their inner-DJ and choose the music that is played to wake up the pilots from sleep in space. Gabrielle Giffords, a U.S. representative from Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, has chosen Calexico’s “Crystal Frontier” as one of two songs to wake up the Space Shuttle Discovery on its current trip to the International Space station. An excellent choice, especially when you realize the other “song” she selected was the bugle call her husband used to wake up to when he went to college at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (which is still a better choice than any Fergie track).

You’ll be able to actually hear the astronauts waking up to Calexico on Flight Day 14, June 13, by checking out NASA TV live at around 3am EST. If you miss it, starting at 8pm every hour on the hour they run the highlights starting with the wake up song. Or you can recreate your own astro-wake with “Crystal Frontier” below!
