With Cold War Kids’ second album Loyalty To Loyalty (Sept 23rd) getting closer to a release date, a new track has popped up online - “Something Is Not Right With Me.” Despite the track’s title, it appears that singer Nathan Willet has been doing alright and been busy channeling his inner Frank Black. In the wake of Mexico’s emo-bashing epidemic of 2008, comes another reason for international emo kids to be, well…emo. Russian legislators are working on a bill that would make being “emo” illegal. The bill would allow Russian government to regulate emo websites, and ban the wearing of goth and emo clothes and styles in schools and government buildings. Go ahead and check your calendar - this is apparantly not an April Fool’s joke. How long before the Statue of Liberty reads, “”Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled emo kids yearning to listen to My Chemical Romance…”
I didn’t see it, but it’s hard to imagine that The Love Guru was half as fun as Devendra Banhart’s new, must-see Bollywood-inspired video for “Carmensita,” which features hilarious subtitles, knife-throwing, snake-shooting, and Banhart’s girlfriend Natalie Portman. This could easily be one of the best videos I’ve seen in 2008 and has upped my excitement for Banhart’s Megapuss sideproject!

Delilah DiCrescenzo may have inspired the Plain White Ts to earn a Grammy a nomination and a top-spot on the Billboard Hot 100 last July with “Hey There Delilah,” but it looks like she won’t be going for the gold this summer in Beijing. The young Chicago woman sadly finished last in the 14-woman final of the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Olympic trials.
