Flaming Lips Rehearse For Who Tribute

The Flaming Lips The Who Rehearsal Tribute VH1

This Saturday Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, the Flaming Lips, Incubus and Tenacious D will pay tribute to The Who at VH1’s annual Rock Honors event in Hell-Ay. Roger Daltrey recently revealed puppy-pushers The Flaming Lips are set to perform a Tommy medley (apropos considering Des McAnuff, the Tony Award-winning director of Tommy, is working with Wayne Coyne to turn Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots into a Broadway musical). Ahead of Saturday’s performance, you can check out the below video of The Lips getting their Who on!

Devendra Banhart Recording Album With Side-Project, Megapuss

Megapuss Devendra Banhart Greg Rogove Penis

After a penis-skirt wearing performance (yes, you read that correctly) in Hell-Ay last month, Devendra Banhart (along with Priestbird’s Greg Rogove) has been busy recording a full-length album (tentatively titled Surfin and set for a 2008 release) with his side project band, Megapuss. The duo started the project as a joke and even recruited the mega-funny Aziz Ansari to sing a song about duck racism ( “Duck People, Duck Man”), but thankfully you can still hear a talented group of nuevo-folkies beneath all of the phallus-fashion and waterfowl-dissing. Check out a taste of Megapuss below!

Death Cab For Cutie Narrow Stairs Cath… Music Video Lukas Haas Wedding Church

Death Cab for Cutie cordially requests your presence at the feel-goodsad wedding event of the year via their new video for “Cath…”! Don’t worry, though - unlike the countless other weddings you’ve no doubt attended this season, you don’t have to buy a toaster and Lukas “Kingpin” Haas is in attendance letting his inner-Graduate out!

(NOTE: Due to some bad info and a busy schedule, I made the embarrassing blunder of posting the wrong clip yesterday. Apologies!)

Lightspeed Champion Covers Star Wars Medley

Lightspeed Champion Star Wars R2-D2 Artoo Detoo Medley Imperial March Cover

At his iTunes Live gig in London last night (July 8th), Lightspeed Champion performed a rocked-up medley of Star Wars themes including “The Imperial March” and the main film theme. Way better than what you would hear from a beauty pageant trumpeter and with less awkward choreography, Dev has been using the medley as an extended introduction to his epic single “Midnight Surprise” at recent live shows. If you dig L-Champ or just love R2-D2, you should check out the tracks below in less than 12 parsecs!

(As a bonus cover, I’m also posting his excellent take on The Strokes’ “Heart In A Cage!”)

Bloc Party’s “Mercury” Inspired By Peter Gabriel?

Bloc Party Kele Okereke Peter Gabriel Mercury Shock The Monkey Monkey Business

Accusing English musicians of plagiarism is so hot right now! With Viva-gate™ now settled, a new blogger is suggesting that Bloc Party’s “Mercury” (more specifically, the track’s horn parts) “bears a striking resemblance” to Peter Gabriel’s “Shock The Monkey.” No serious accusations are being made (it could be a deliberate sample), but I thought you listeners would enjoy comparing and contrasting for yourself.
