Conor Oberst Gives Team Love’s Music Away For Free

Conor Oberst’s independent label Team Love Records has announced the Team Love Library, a rotating selection of music content that registered users can access at no cost. That’s right - free. Promising to offer “Team Love albums as well as exclusive content such as unreleased songs, live or remixed versions of TL favorites,” the label also claims that they’ve had the idea since it was founded by Oberst and Nate Krenkel in 2003. Team Love’s solid artist roster includes Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins, Tilly and The Wall, Gruff Rhys, and The Felice Brothers. In other words, plenty of reasons to get registered and start downloading!

The new nine-minute clip for Metallica’s epic “All Nightmare Long,” which features spores, Soviets, and zombies (oh my!!!), is like a “Thriller” for the post-Grindhouse generation. Check it out and prepare to crave braaaaaiiiiins…or at least repeat viewings of one of 2008’s best music videos!

New PT Walkley feat. David Campbell (Beck’s Dad) - “Somebody”

Watching the snow fall outside while listening to PT Walkley’s new single, “Somebody,” it’s easy to grasp why he was recently selected by Chris Martin to open for Coldplay at Madison Square Garden. Featuring string arrangement by David Campbell (or Beck’s dad if you’re nasty), “Somebody” is a song that beautifully swells from melancholy to hope in just under 4 minutes. If you dig strings as much as I do, make sure to check out this track along with PT’s upcoming solo debut, Mr. Macy Wakes Alone (Jan. 27th).

Viva-Gate 2: Joe Satriani Sues Coldplay

Here we go again - Coldplay is again being accused of stealing their hit single “Viva La Vida” just days after the group was shortlisted for seven Grammys, including song of the year. This time the accuser is guitarist Joe Satriani who is claiming that Coldplay ganked the riff from his 2004 instrumental “If I Could Fly.” I can hear the similiarity, but what do you guys think? Does Satriani have a case or is this just another Creaky Boards incident with a band crying wolf riff?
