Bloc Party dropped by Radio 1’s Live Lounge recently to perform their current single (”One Month Off”) and treat listeners to a cover of Girls Aloud’s “Call The Shots.” The group apparently had so much fun getting their inner-girl group on, they decided to perform the cover again last night in Manchester.

The Jakes‘ 2008 EP Shake My Hand is the musical equivalent of a fake ID - it’s so self-assured and well-assembled that you expect the California sextet to be a bit older. In fact, The Jakes are fresh out of high school and have poured their youthful moxie into an EP of eclectic and highly accessible indie pop-rock. Propelled by the talents of lead-singer Sameer Gadhia, the seven song collection is a stylistic shake-up that ranges from soaring rock to gentler acoustic balladry. The pumping drums and swooning guitars of mega-hooky “Cough Syrup” deliver a buzz like swilling a bottle of Robitussin.
The Black Lips have premiered the new song “Short Fuse” from their upcoming album 200 Million Thousand (Feb 24th). Despite the Lips lyrically warning, “Don’t light me up because I’ve got a short fuse,” this jangly track makes one suspect this group of flower punks have a bark far worse than their bite. No fists, just fiestas - ya’ dig?
