Young@Heart Singer Dies at Age 83

Very sad news - Young@Heart’s Fred Knittle passed away on Friday at age 83 after battling cancer. You may remember Knittle for his heartbreaking rendition of Coldplay’s “Fix You” in the documentary.

The Flaming Lips Cover “Purple Rain”

If you weren’t at The Flaming Lips show in OKC on NYE, you not only missed an amazing show and the opportunity to see me dressed as a matador…you also missed the Lips covering Prince’s “Purple Rain!” Wayne clearly had as much fun singing the song as it was for the audience to hear it (”Weekend lover…I don’t know what that means!”) Thankfully, Liz had her camera nearby to capture one of the best omens that 2009 is going to be a spectacular year!

The Rest - Everyone All At Once

The Rest - Everyone All At Once

I spent the morning listening to Everything All At Once, the soon-to-be released sophomore album from Canadian group The Rest. “Walk on Water (Auspicious Beginnings)” was enough of a reason to instantly search for a possible nearby tour date. The track is built on a driving quasi-military beat and a less produced U2 guitar sound, then iced with ace vocals and strings. Regarding the sixth track, “Apples & Allergies,” our friends over atConsequence of Sound summed it up nicely:

By far, ["Apples & Allergies"] is my favorite with a classic rock opening complete with abstract lyrics that make you sit back and wander aimlessly inside your head.
