Just received a tip from a fairly reliable source that the upcoming Flaming Lips album will be entitled Embryonic. There’s no release date set, but the same source says the band is hoping to have it out sometime in the last half of 2009. In the meantime, here’s a preview of what fans may expect on the new LP.

Sufjan Stevens posted an essay on Asthmatic Kitty’s blog earlier today about his unique name and his songwriting process in college, which included penning a song to his “imaginary confident” Sofia Coppola. For those of you who aren’t, you’ve heard the name, you’ve probably heard a few songs pop on your Modest Mouse channel on Pandora, and you know they were the first “shoegazer” band, and you respect them for what they have been able to do for their genre of indie music. I fit in the second category.
