Songkick Recommends Concerts Based On Your Music Tastes

Songkick Beta Concert Search Engine

Songkick is an interesting new website that finds upcoming concerts in your area based on your musical tastes. (It’s like Pandora for live gigs!) It’s simple to use - either type in bands you dig or download a plugin that compares music in your iTunes library with Songkick’s tour tracker. If you want a comprehensive list of tour dates (like I did), just click the “listings” tab. Songkick then makes educated guesses about what music you’ll like that you may not have heard before and suggests local live shows for you to attend. Even better, the site puts the concert listings and links to ticket sellers in one place so you can compare prices! (Thanks to Pop Candy for the heads up!)

Pitchfork Music Festival 08 Line-Up Announced

Pitchfork Music Festival 2008

Pitchfork has announced the initial lineup for their hipster shizz fest taking place in Chicago’s Union Park on Friday, July 18, Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20. Interestingly, while this year’s Coachella crowd is getting a dose of classic-rock courtesy of Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters performing “Dark Side of the Moon” in its entirety, P-Fork has Public Enemy offering up the full version of their classic hip-hop album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. Check out the lineup after the jump!

Madonna Inducted Into Hall of Fame; Covered by Iggy Pop

Madonna Music Hall of Fame Justin Timberlake Iggy Pop

Madonna was inducted into the Music Hall of Fame over the weekend with the bizarre assistance of Justin Timberlake and Iggy Pop. In his induction speech, Timberlake related how Madge personally gave him a B-12 shot while the pair were working on her forthcoming album Hard Candy. Madonna opted out of performing at the ceremony, instead asking Iggy Pop and The Stooges to perform on her behalf. The group obliged Madonna’s request with covers of two of her legendary singles - “Burning Up” and “Ray Of Light”. The induction of Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie was so strange, it’s almost easy to over look that this year’s inductions also included John Mellencamp, Leonard Cohen and the Dave Clark Five.

Radiohead & Nine Inch Nails Headlining Lollapalooza?

Thome Yorke Trent Reznor

Could it be the battle of the internet album bands this summer in Grant Park? Rumors have begun circulating that Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails may headline the fourth incarnation of Lollapalooza in Chicago Aug. 1-3. Promoters won’t make the lineup official for a few more weeks, but industry sources have allegedly confirmed that Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have been booked as the centerpiece of the festival. At least one other major headliner and about 100 more artists and bands are expected to be announced for the three-day festival sometime next month.
