New Trailer - Step Brothers

Step Brothers Will Ferrell John C. Reilly

The trailer for Step Brothers (one of Hypeful’s most anticipated films of 2008) has just been released. Although some naysayers are growing weary of Will Ferrell doing sports flicks, Hypeful will never tire of pairing Ferrell with John C. Reilly. Particularly when they’re playing competitive stepbrothers. And LCD Soundsystem is in the trailer?!? And Steenburgen?!? Did I mention Steenburgen?!?! Ch-ch-check it out below.

Film To Watch: Rainbow Around the Sun

Rainbow Around the Sun Matthew Alvin Brown SXSW 24 Beats per Second

If you’re attending the 2008 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX, Hypeful enthusiastically recommends that you check out the premiere of Rainbow Around the Sun. RAtS is featured in the festival’s “24 Beats per Second” category and is a rock musical based on the album of the same name by Oklahoma City-based singer/actor Matthew Alvin Brown.

In the vein of classic rock musicals like Tommy and Pink Floyd: The Wall, the story is told almost entirely through song and imagery. Brown stars as Zachary Blasto, a hard-drinking but talented songwriter who envisions madcap musical fantasies in order to avoid dealing with the downward spiral of his personal life. When faced with the loss of someone he loves, Zach must choose whether to face his demons or surrender to the madness of his imaginary world.

Rainbow Around the Sun will have three screenings at the Alamo Drafthouse on Lamar - Saturday March 8th @ 10 PM, Tuesday March 11th @ 8 PM, and Saturday March 15th @ 5 PM. Check out the trailer below - along with an ace song, “The Babies,” from the film performed by Matthew Alvin Brown!

Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova Take Best Original Song Oscar

Falling Slowly Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova Take Best Original Song Oscar Once

Suck it, Enchanted! Despite earlier attempts to withdraw their nomination, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova took home the Best Original Song Oscar last night for Once’s “Falling Slowly.” Taking the stage to accept their award, Hansard offered up a genuine thanks and offered the inspiring message, “Fair play to those who dare to dream.” After cued music unfortunately cut off Irglova from speaking, host Jon Stewart brought her back out so she could make a proper acceptance. If you missed it, it was definitely one of Oscar night’s best moments.

Help This American Life Come to a Theater Near You

This American Life Ira Glass

Here’s the deal - This American Life is planning a stage show that would be filmed and sent live—live!—via satellite to movie theaters across the country. It would include host Ira Glass performing a radio piece, never-before-seen stories and outtakes from the second season of the excellent TLA TV series, an audience Q&A via satellite with theater attendees, and much more. No other public radio program has tried this before, which makes it a very exciting event. But to make it happen, TLA needs to know if you’re interested (which you most definitely should be). TLA is asking for your input on how to craft the event by taking this very short survey (it’ll take less than two minutes).

As if you need more convincing to take the survey, here’s a trailer for the first superb season and an audio clip from last year’s live tour featuring Ira discussing “radio on TV,” his love of The O.C., and Mates of State performing The O.C.’s theme song (”California”).

Happy Groundhog Day 2008 - woah, wait…six more weeks of winter?!? There is no way this winter is ever going to end as long as that groundhog keeps seeing his shadow. I don’t see any way out of it. He’s got to be stopped
