With no explanation whatsoever, Bloc Party have replaced their official website with a mystery countdown timer set to end tomorrow (July 7th) at 11am GMT (that’s 6am CDT, yanks). The band has been busy in the studio working with producers Jacknife Lee and Paul Epworth on their third album, so there’s plenty of rumors buzzing about what the countdown will reveal. A new track (à la Coldplay’s “Violet Hill” release)? The complete album (à la Radiohead’s In Rainbows)? Just a redesigned website? The most elaborate Rickroll of ‘08? Whatever it is, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out…

Don’t worry - the angry banging of elderly walking canes you may be hearing is actually just the latest “war cry” from Metallica, who apparently still doesn’t understand the internets even after that whole Napster hullabaloo. This time the heavy metal band’s cyber rage is directed at *uh oh* bloggers. Metallica is demanding that early reviews of six tracks from its new album be removed from blogs…after the band invited journalists to come listen to them without signing any non-disclosure agreements. Seriously, not cool. Read more about it here.
