If you don’t believe that Stephen Colbert is one of the most awesome men alive, just take a look at his résumé - TV personality, actor, author, presidential candidate, and last but not least, 80’s rock icon. As hilariously revealed on The Colbert Report, Stephen’s earlier years were spent as the front man for Stephen and the Colberts and the band’s hit single, “Charlene (I’m Right Behind You),” is best-described as an epic ballad of stalker love. Now, the folks behind Rock Band are showing their allegiance to the Colbert Nation by offering Stephen’s infamous song as a free download via Xbox Live (and possibly PlayStation 3). This might be one of the coolest things since “Rock and Awe: Countdown to Guitarmageddon!″
Anyway check out the song and its must-see music video below along with a video clip of “Charlene” on Rock Band!
You know where you are? You’re in the Xbox 360, baby! After a decade and a half since its previous album, Guns N’ Roses is finally releasing a new song, “Shackler’s Revenge,” in September via Rock Band 2. The inclusion of the song is promising news for gamers and non-gamers alike because it suggests that Chinese Democracy might actually come out this fall, after years of delays!
Bad news for those of you hoping to see “Stairway to Heaven” on a gaming console near you. Despite the success of Guitar Hero/Rock Band and other bands like Aerosmith and Metallica getting their own spin-off games, Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and his bandmates are apparently not comfortable giving gaming companies access to the group’s master recordings - a necessary step in adding a band’s music to the game. With “Stairway”’s recent estimated value of $572 million in revenues, the most requested rock tune in history is still a big winner without video games…
“Well, it appears that Chris was actually recording in London during my October show and Coldplay demoed Viva La Vida in March 2007, before I taught my band “Songs” in June 2007. What’s most likely is that both Chris and I were inspired by The Legend of Zelda’s “Fairy Theme,” causing us to write similiar songs in 2006. What a coincidince! I guess Nintendo’s the big winner. But isn’t it weird how in 2008, an independent artist can make something in their bedroom that receives almost as much attention as EMI’s biggest marketing push of the year?”
