Cinemas Get Mass Interactive Gaming

Since I got my grubby hands on a Wii in November, I’ve loved how the system’s accessibility results in a more social gaming experience. (Anyone can play - even my grandparents!)

So, naturally I was thrilled when I discovered that MSNBC.com has made a deal with U.S. cinemas to replace those annoying pre-movie ads with a giant, participatory game. The game is Newsbreaker, a simple break-out style game that rewards you for clearing lines by dropping real-time RSS news headlines. It sounds dry, but the gameplay is cool - a motion sensor in the theater allows the entire audience to control the paddle by swaying in unison from side to side.

Band to Watch: Yeasayer

If Fleetwood Mac and Phil Collins time traveled to the year 2080, whenever they returned their first song would probably sound something like Yeasayer’s “2080″. After one listen of this track, I found myself immediately hitting repeat and feeling that early fall is too long to wait for this Brooklyn band’s debut album to be released. “2080″ is filled with the kind of harmonies and sing-along moments that feel like you’re lucid dreaming of being under the stars at the best outdoor dance party. I just wish I could wake up and hear Yeasayer’s entire album - they are definitely a band to watch!

Jack & Meg are coming back at you with their new album Icky Thump, slated to drop in June, and Hypeful is very fired up about it. The Stripes recently released the first single, the title track “Icky Thump”, and today they’re giving us the “caliente” video for the track. After Mikhail’s big boom on last night’s Lost finale and Meg’s role as a one-eyed prostitute in today’s new Stripes video, it may be time to declare that cyclops are having the best week ever!

Check out the awesome video/song and be extra careful if you’re playing with a BB gun!
